Marsha H. Levine has been a Pride activist for more than 4 decades, and an advocate for human, civil, and LGBTQ+ rights starting at the young age of 13-years-old. She joined the Boston Lesbian/Gay Pride Committee in 1980, serving as their President for 3 of her 5 years. Moving to San Francisco in 1985, she immediately was elected as their Man Stage Entertainment Co-Chair and has been a member, volunteer, contractor, and employee ever since, filling such roles as President, Vice President, overall Co-Chair (the pre-Executive Director position), Parade Manager (for 18 years), and Community Relations Manager for almost 6 years.
In 1982, Marsha founded what is now known as InterPride, an international network of over 400 Pride organizations around the world, with many leadership roles to her credit. She is also co-founder of the Consolidated Association of Prides, Inc. (CAPI), established in 1990. In 2020, she was elected as the first female-identified Co-President of the United States Association of Prides (USAP) through January 2024. Recently, she was elected to the Oakland Pride Board of Directors in July 2024.
Marsha now identifies as a non-binary bisexual, has been a resident of the City of Oakland since 2003, after the great dot.com boon diaspora from San Francisco. She lives in a 100+ year old historic loft building with her two cats, a ginger named Clove and gray named Willow. By trade, Marsha is a graphic designer with event planning and logistics skills.
